Cover Art Alert! Michelle Moran’s Madame Tussaud

I love the colors displayed here – the yellow, blue and green will definitely grab the attention of browsers at the bookstore. And those colors tend to give off a sense of calm and serenity; a nice ironic touch of what is to come – as this is, after all, a novel of the French Revolution. I believe the book begins right before the Revolution actually takes place, so this is sort of like a vision of “the calm before the storm”.

I think they chose a great model for the cover; she’s pretty, but not supermodel-like, so as to be unbelievable for the character. And the dress fits the time period and the model perfectly, which is more than many historical fiction authors can say for their models! (Hey, working in fashion for all those years means that I cringe at the sight of ill-fitted dresses.) Plus, ya just gotta love that hair ;)

Madame Tussaud releases in stores April 2011.

  6. Allie, I am every kind of flattered that you posted the cover on here – THANK YOU!!!! And I am so glad you lide it :) Your input was truly invaluable. For those who don't know, I emailed Allie before the cover was finished to get her opinion. For a while, my agent and I were thinking of asking for a change in cover. Allie's feedback was tremendously helpful!

The dress on the cover is a little bit like the costume I bought at the Opera Atelier sale this weekend. Butter yellow is one of my favourite colours.

I don't know. I am going to be the nay sayer and say I am not sure that I would want to pick the book up if I saw this cover on the shelf. Lucky I will read it regardless of the cover because I have enjoyed all of Michelle's books in the past and fully expect to do so in the future.

  16. Rebecca :) says:

I agree! They did very well with the cover. I just hate covers that don't grab your attention or that don't fit the characters or the story in the book. It seems like a simple thing to do. And I love Moran so I am super excited about this book!

  17. It's a fabulous cover; very grabby, for the composition and the colors. It also reminds me a bit of the poster for the Keira Knightley "Duchess" movie.
