Henry’s run out of wives! As many of us have heard, this will be the fourth and final season of Showtime’s entertaining period romp, The Tudors. I reviewed the series and posted about Jolie Richardson stepping up as Henry’s sixth and final wife Catherine Parr, and although I’ve been hard on the show in the past for its many unnecessary glaring historical inaccuracies, I still enjoy watching it and take it for what it is: a glamorized Hollywood version of events meant for entertainment. And entertain, it does.
I’m slightly disappointed that the “the” in “The Tudors” was never meant to imply that the series would follow the rest of the Tudor dynasty. I think it would have been interesting to see how the reigns of Edward VI, Lady Jane Grey, Mary I, and Elizabeth I might be portrayed in a TV costume drama. But the let down was soon erased when I learned that Showtime would be replacing The Tudors with another intrgue-driven, Michael Hirst-written telling of a different powerful Renaissance family: The Borgias. So far, the series is in production but we know that the cast will be lead by Jeremy Irons starring as Roderigo Borgia (Pope Alexander VI). I, for one, am excited for both the final season of The Tudors and the premiere of The Borgias in 2011.

Will you be watching Season 4 of The Tudors?

I'd love to see something about what happened BEFORE Henry was on the throne…shows dealing with his father and mother, grandmother, Wars of the Roses…I don't have Showtime so I have only seen the 1st season (which I rented and now all our movie stores have closed in the area).
I will be looking forward to watching the final season of The Tudors…I a purchase Shotwtime just for the few months its on LOL. The Borgias is such a great idea for a new series!!!
Robinbird – I totally agree! They should do a series or a movie on the Wars of the Roses. I am reading a bit about that now with The Sunne in Splendour and it would make for excellent entertaining television! That's really sad that all your local video stores have closed…Have you tried Netflix? I'm sure you could get the other seasons on there. I think they even do a two week free trial.Muse in the Fog – That's so smart of you to only purchase Showtime during those months. I would probably do the same, but then I wouldn't be able to watch Weeds over the summer and Dexter in September (my two other TV obsessions).
I don't have cable, but I've watched the other three seasons of The Tudors on DVD. It's definitely inaccurate, but worth the romp! And I didn't know about The Borgias. That's so exciting! I'll definitely watch both!
I've only recently started watching the series on Netflix. I've gotten through season one and am looking forward to season two. You're right, there are some MAJOR inaccuracies, but I've read some interviews where they explain why they made some of the choices they made, and that makes me appreciate it more. They KNOW they're playing fast and loose with history. I've heard about The Borgias taking over for The Tudors when the series is over and I'm definitely looking forward to it!
I don't understand why they didn't carry it further either – there's so much good stuff that happens after Henry dies and they're missing out on it! Oh well, I'm siked for The Borgias and can't wait to see the costumes in that series!I've only seen the first episode and I was actually a bit turned off I mean seriously, how much sex does one king need?), BUT I will rent the DVD's one day as people have told me it gets better.
I'm somewhat behind on the series since I don't have Showtime. I actually just finished watching Season I on DVD today. I love Joely Richardson…thought she was great as Marie Antoinette in The Affair of the Necklace. It will be great to see her as Catherine Parr. I am looking forward to the Borgia series too. That should be interesting!
Ha, I can not believe I missed this, I am so so slacking. Joely Richardson is on my favorite show Nip Tuck but it has taken a dive and now the last episode is on next Wendsday at 10. No wonder she has not been on the show, she only just came back 2nd to last episode. I have watched all the Tudors to date and the best yet was Anne. I still can not get over the actress who played her had blue eyes. That always kind of ruffled me.
