Down the Rabbit Hole

I just couldn’t resist mentioning that Tim Burton recently released the first teaser trailer for his upcoming “Alice in Wonderland”. The film stars Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter, Helena Bonham Carter as the Red Queen, Anne Hathaway as the White Queen, and Polish actress Mia Wasikowska as Alice.

I realize that Lewis Carroll’s psychedelic tale of pipe-smoking caterpillars and mad tea parties is far from historical fiction, but it was an influential work of fiction that had a large impact on literary history, and it remains a classic today. I’m eager to see how the ever unique Burton/Depp duo will tackle this one. I can’t imagine an actor better suited for the Mad Hatter role than Johnny Depp. Between Edward Scissorhands, Sweeny Todd, and Willy Wonka, he’s got the quirky madman type down pat. I think it’s so interesting to see how he makes every role he plays truly his own. Tim Burton’s somewhat dark artistic lens is just the twisted influence this classic story needs to bring its dream-like qualities to life on the big screen. Looking forward to seeing it in 3D!
